Purohit and Velasquez Close Regular Season with Singles Wins

Two Boilermakers closed out the regular season with singles wins in Purdue's 2-5 loss at No. 69 Northwestern on Sunday.

 

EVANSTON, Ill.- Two Boilermakers closed out the regular season with singles wins in Purdue's 2-5 loss at No. 69 Northwestern on Sunday.

Although the Wildcats took the doubles point, Stefan Simeunovic/Henrik Villanger picked up their second conference win at doubles No. 2. The duo defeated Greyson Casey/Presley Thieneman 6-3 before Northwestern clinched the point.

Soham Purohit and Juan David Velasquez earned both points for Purdue. Purohit cruised to a straight-set win. The 6-4, 6-3 win was his first Big Ten road win and his ninth win this spring.

Velasquez laid it all on the line in the regular season finale. The freshman took a first-set lead winning 6-3 before facing a new match in a 6-7(5) tiebreak loss in the second. Velasquez took the match in three after a 10-7 win in the final set, giving Purdue its second dual point.
