COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 26-ranked Purdue men's golf team struggled in round two, but remain in the hunt at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate hosted by Ohio State University at the OSU Golf Course Scarlet's Course.
The Boilermakers sit in fifth place after 36 holes at 22-over 590 (289-301), seven shots behind the leaders Ohio State and Kent State (+15). South Dakota State is third at 18-over par 586, while Indiana is fourth at 19-over par 587.
Five teams are tied for sixth at 23-over par 591.
The Boilermakers struggled on a tough scoring day, as the 99 players averaged a score of 75.79 strokes in the second round, 1.26 strokes worse than round one. No players shot under par and just seven players shot even par on the difficult par-71 layout. Just two players are even- or under-par for the tournament through 36 holes.
Purdue managed just nine birdies in round two.
Three players sit in the top 25 for the Boilermakers, who are playing without All-American Herman Sekne, who competed in the PGA Tour's Corales Puntacana Championships in the Dominican Republic this week.
Nels Surtani is tied for 16th at 5-over par 147 (74-73). Surtani was even-par through 14 holes, but suffered bogeys on two of his final four holes to fall out of the top 10. Kent Hsiao joins Surtani in 16th after rounds of 72 and 75.
Freshman Sam Easterbrook is tied for 25th at 6-over par 148 (70-78). Easterbrook was 6-over par through 11 holes, but managed birdies on two of his final seven holes for his second-round 78.
Peyton Snoeberger is tied for 37th at 7-over par 149 (73-76), while Nick Dentino is tied for 75th at 11-over par 153 (76-77). Playing as an individual, Justin Sun is tied for 93rd at 16-over par 158 (78-80).
The Boilermakers will tee off the final round at 12:20 p.m. ET, off hole No. 10, paired with Indiana and Dayton.
