The Purdue women have had a championship finalist on the tower in six consecutive NCAA Championships dating back to 2017. The Boilermakers have also produced four of the top-10 finishers on platform at the Big Ten Championships each of the last three seasons and four of the last five years. In 2021, they were able to carry over that success to NCAAs, producing three of the top seven finishers, led by Vieta's bronze-medal performance.
Highlighted by the bronze in her debut at NCAAs, Vieta is a two-time championship finalist on the Tower at the national championship meet. This year the 2023 Big Ten champion competes at NCAAs having already qualified for the Olympic Games in the event for Puerto Rico.
McAfee, Patrick and Wright have continued to demonstrate their versatility, this time by again qualifying for NCAAs in both a springboard event and on the tower. McAfee (9-for-9) and Wright (6-for-6) have finished top 10 in every event they've competed at Big Tens during their careers. A year ago, McAfee was an honorable mention All-American on both 3-meter and platform. As a sophomore this season, Wright has won bronze medals on the tower at the USA Diving Winter Nationals and Big Ten Championships. Now she'll look claim her first All-American accolades. Purdue has had at least one women's diver earn All-America honors at the NCAA Championships in 18 of the last 19 years the meet has been held. That run dates back to 2004, with 2012 being the only year a Purdue diver did not qualify for the national championship meet. McAfee, Patrick and Wright aim to join the short list of program greats that have claimed full-fledged (top 8) All-America honors on a springboard and the platform in the same year. Carrie McCambridge (2005), Amanda Miller (2007) and Emily Bretscher (2021) represent the trio that has accomplished that feat.
