SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The 10th-fastest time in school history in the 200-meter opened the weekend for the Purdue track & field team at the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Indiana, on Friday evening.
Sophomore Nolan Macklin entered the record book at No. 10 in the 200m with one of two victories for the Boilermakers to open the two-day meet at Notre Dame's Loftus Sports Center. Freshman Kaden Stewart, in the high jump, also notched a win on Friday.
Macklin ran the 200m in 21.17 seconds. In his third meet as a Boilermaker, he earned his first victory by 0.04 seconds. It's the third-fastest time in the Big Ten this season along with being 10th in the record books.
Stewart won the high jump with a personal-best clearance of 2.05 meters. One of two competitors to clear 2.00m, Stewart notches his first collegiate win in any event.
Prior to his record-book time, Macklin ran the 60m qualifying in 6.82 seconds. With the fastest time overall, he advances to tomorrow's prelims. Two other Boilermakers, sophomore Bryanna Craig (8.84) and freshman Angeline Amefia (8.91) also advanced in the 60m hurdles, as Amefia's mark was a personal-record.
The Boilermakers posted a runner-up finish in the men's distance medley relay with a time of 9:50.93 and junior Damazvia Dames was third in the long jump with a season-best 5.78m.
Craig added a PR in the 200m (25.19) and Dames also ran a season-best in the event (24.95). Junior Danny Affleck posted a season best of his own in the pole vault (4.60m).
Purdue is joined on the track this weekend by a field that includes host-Notre Dame and fellow Big Ten foes Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota and Ohio State.
Competition will conclude on Saturday, February 3. Action for Purdue opens with running events at 10 a.m. ET and field events at noon. The 4x400 relay wraps up the weekend at 4 p.m.
