Naismith Coach of the Year Semifinalists Opens in a new window
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue's men's basketball head coach Matt Painter has been named one of 15 coaches named to the Werner Ladder Naismith Men's Coach of the Year Watch List, announced today by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.

Painter is on the list for the second straight year after being one of four finalists a year ago. He is the lone Big Ten coach to be represented on the list.

Painter was a Naismith finalist in 2008 and 2023 and a semifinalist 2018, 2019, and now 2024.

In his 19th year at Purdue, Painter has led the Boilermakers to a 24-3 overall record and atop the Big Ten standings with a 13-3 mark entering Sunday's contest at Michigan.

He led Purdue to the Maui Invitational with three wins over teams ranked in the top 11 of the Associated Press Top 25 poll, guiding the Boilermakers to a No. 1 ranking for five weeks earlier this year. With the ascension to the top spot, Purdue became the first team in Big Ten history to be ranked No. 1 in three consecutive years and Purdue has spent the last 32 weeks ranked in the AP Poll's top five – the longest-active streak by 17 weeks.

Purdue is just one of four teams ranked inside the nation's top 10 all season long and the only one ranked in the top five all season.

Purdue has reached its success with a high-flying offense ranked No. 2 nationally in offensive efficiency while ranking in the nation's top 20 in 3-point percentage (1st), rebound margin (2nd), assists per game (6th), scoring offense (9th), scoring margin (10th), field goal percentage (16th) and assist / turnover ratio (20th).

In addition, Purdue ranks 22nd in the country in defensive efficiency ranking in the nation's top 60 in field goal percentage defense.

Purdue leads the country in quad-1 and 2 wins combined (16; next closest is 13) and the Boilermakers have done so against a schedule that ranks as the second hardest nationally.

Purdue is 82-17 since the start of the 2021-22 season, one win shy of tying the school record for most victories in a three-year span.

No. 3-ranked Purdue faces Michigan on Sunday in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
