LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore Bryanna Craig won the pentathlon for the Purdue track & field team to open the weekend at the Lenny Lyles Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky, on Friday afternoon.
On the opening day of the team's first two-day meet of the season, Craig's pentathlon win was one of four top-three finishes for the Boilermakers at the Norton Healthcare Sport and Learning Center. Purdue recorded 15 personal-record marks and five season-bests.
Along with Craig, junior Zoe Sullivan won the unseeded 200-meter, freshman James Ammenhauser was second in the long jump and sophomore Nolan Macklin placed third in the seeded 200m. Additionally, freshman Nia Wilson posted the top time in the qualifying round of the 60m and is one of three Boilermakers to advance to Saturday's prelims.
In her season pentathlon debut, Craig won the event with 3,792 points. The 13th-best mark in the country this season, Craig benefited from season-best marks in three of the five events. She opened the day with a first-place finish in the 60m hurdles in 8.82 and closed the competition with the best 800m time of 2:20.05.
Sullivan was victorious in the 200m thanks to a personal-best 24.44. In the unseeded competition, she was victorious by 0.26 seconds.
Ammenhauser was the runner-up in the long jump thanks to a personal-best jump of 7.07 meters. He came into the meet with a PR of 6.88m and topped that on four of his six attempts. Ammenhauser was in third place before his fifth-attempt jump of 7.07m moved him into second.
Running in his first event of 2024, Macklin was third in the seeded 200m in 21.22. He registered the top time of the second heat and edged out the fourth-place finisher by 0.007 seconds.
One of the first events on the track was the 60m qualifying, where Wilson finished in 7.46. With the fastest time, she moves on to Saturday's prelims and will be joined by Sullivan and fellow freshman Jada Lee with a chance to advance to the final.
The meet concludes on Saturday.
