ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Grad student Cameron Miller broke the Purdue track & field record in the 200-meter as the Boilermakers competed against four Big Ten teams at the Simmons-Harvey Invitational on Saturday in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Miller notched Purdue's first school record in any event since 2022 and ran the nation's fastest 200m time this season. His time also broke the facility and meet recorks on Saturday at the U-M Indoor Track Building.
Additionally, junior Zoe Sullivan and freshman Jasiah Rogers each moved up to No. 6 in the record books in their events, as they have both ran a record-book time in each of their first three meets as Boilermakers. Sullivan is in the top-10 charts in the 60m hurdles and Rogers has his name on the 60m all-time list.
The Boilermakers won four events while taking the track against host-Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota and Penn State.
In his first race as a Boilermaker, Miller immediately made an impact with a record finish of 20.40 seconds. He bested a record almost 20 years old by 0.17 seconds, as Kenneth Baxter's mark of 20.57 seconds stood since March 12, 2004.
In a tightly contested finish, Miller won by 0.02 seconds as both top-two finishers broke the facility and meet records. His time also is the fastest in the country this season.
In the 60m hurdle final, Sullivan moved up one spot into a tie for No. 6 in program history. Her personal-best time of 8.31 seconds gave her runner-up honors as she earned a top-10 time for the third consecutive meet to begin her Boilermaker career.
Shortly after, Rogers took sole possession of No. 6 all-time in the 60m dash. He crossed the finish line in 6.66 to claim silver with the best time by a Boilermaker in the event since 2021. It's the 24th-fastest time in the nation this season.
Freshman Nia Wilson won the 60m in 7.42 seconds after she also posted the top prelims time of 7.40. That preliminary mark tied Wilson's personal-best, which is tied for No. 4 in Purdue's record book. Her win in the final came by 0.06 seconds.
Junior Grant Gogel picked up the win in the pole vault. He cleared 4.90 meters to beat out teammate Collin Kao, who was second with a clearance of 4.80m. The win was Gogel's second in three meets during the 2023-24 campaign.
The meet concluded with a win by the men's 4x400 relay. A team of Miller, junior Brett Otterbacher, senior Jahn Riley and sophomore Eric Young II won in 3:09.44. It's the 17th-fastest time in the NCAA this season and the fastest by a Boilermaker relay squad since 2019.
A total of 15 personal-record or PR-tying marks were achieved in Ann Arbor. Along with the four wins and three runner-up showings, Purdue earned four third-place finishes.
Up next, the Boilermakers are off to a pair of two-day meets next weekend. Part of the team will be at the Bob Pollock Meet in Clemson, South Carolina, and the rest will be in Louisville, Kentucky, at the Lenny-Lyles Invitational. Action at both tracks is set for January 26-27.
