EUGENE, Ore. - The Boilermakers took Oregon down to the wire as it lost its first road contest 3-4 on Friday.
After letting the doubles point fly by, Purdue rattled off three points in singles play to make it a 3-2 score.
Marino Jakic and Stefan Simeunovic remain unbeaten as they rolled through their opponents in straight sets. The pair are a combined 4-0 and have yet to surrender a set this spring.
Juan David Velasquez picked up his first win of the year after defeating Matthew Burton in a pair of 6-2 sets. He is now 1-1 after losing to ITAs No. 113 singles player, Luis Saraiva, on Monday.
With the dual tied up at three, Alexander Ekstrand fought back from being down a set. Ekstrand pulled out a 7-5 decision in the second over Vlad Breazu to send his match and the dual to a winner-take-all third set. The freshman quickly went down 0-3 and appeared to be finished before an incredible comeback.
With his back against the wall, Ekstrand found a switch and took the next three games. With a new match in front of him, he kept it close and won a fourth game before Breazu eventually pulled away and secured the win for the Ducks.
