The Boilermakers are competing against Missouri for the third season in a row, a new series that dates back to Purdue hosting Michigan and Mizzou for a co-ed triple dual in November 2021. The Boilermakers opened their 2022-23 season with a two-day dual in Columbia.
The Purdue women also traveled to Champaign-Urbana last year, making their first trip across the state line into Central Illinois since November 1991. Notably, a Purdue freshman record for the women was eclipsed in both meets last season. Abby Marcukaitis broke the program's 100 backstroke freshman benchmark at Missouri (54.32). Daryn Wright eclipsed the first-year records on both springboards at Illinois (321.60 on 1-meter, 354.53 on 3-meter). Abbie Kehmeier bested Marcukaitis' freshman record at the Purdue Invite (54.26) two months ago.
Maggie Love claimed Big Ten Swimmer of the Week honors after both meets thanks to her combined five individual events victories. Jordan Rzepka (at Missouri) and Wright (at Illinois) were also recognized as the Big Ten Divers of the Week for their springboard sweeps.
SwimCloud recently recognized the Purdue women among the most improved teams nationally in its dual meet rankings. The Boilermakers are 4-0 in duals this season and also won the Purdue Invite for the first time since 2015. Compared to the 2022-23 season, they've moved up 16 spots in the dual meet rankings from 57th to 41st as of Jan. 8.
The final co-ed meet of the season at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center is set for the weekend of Feb. 2-3. It's Purdue's turn in the three-year rotation to host the Big Ten Triple Duals and Quad. Minnesota, Northwestern and the Iowa women are slated to visit campus for the two-day meet. Saturday's session will serve as the annual Senior Day.
Purdue (Women's, Feb. 21-24) and Ohio State (Men's, Feb. 28-March 2) are hosting the Big Ten Championships this season.
