GENEVA, Ohio – The Purdue track & field team travels to the 2023 Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio, from February 24-25.
The championships begin on Friday, February 24, with the opening heptathlon event at 10:40 a.m. ET. Field events start at 11:30 a.m. with the men's pole vault, and the first event on the track is the mile prelims at 12:40 p.m. Friday concludes with the distance medley relay at 7:20 p.m. On Saturday, the heptathlon continues at 11 a.m., while Purdue's first field event is the men's triple jump at noon. Running events commence at 1:20 with the mile final. The championships will close with the 4x400 relay at 4:55 p.m.

Forty-one Boilermakers will represent the Old Gold and Black and compete in 14 men's events and 12 women's events. The Spire Institute will serve as host of the championships for the fourth consecutive year and the 10th time in the last 11 seasons.
Three Purdue medalists from a year ago will return to the Spire to defend their spot in the top three this weekend. Now-senior Safin Wills won silver in the triple jump and placed third in the long jump at his Big Ten debut in 2022. Now-sophomore Praise Aniamaka finished right behind him in third in the triple jump, and fellow sophomore Shianne Dacosta claimed bronze in the 400-meters. Wills, Aniamaka and Dacosta will be joined by nine other Boilermakers who are back after earning top-eight podium finishes a season ago.
PURDUE'S BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS HISTORY
The Purdue women won the Big Ten indoor team championship in 2001 and have placed second five times, most recently in 2018. The men have earned three runner-up finishes, in 1989, 2001 and 2008. The Boilermaker men have won 83 individual Big Ten titles indoors, while the women have claimed 49 individual crowns.
At the 2022 Big Ten Championships, the Boilermaker men placed seventh and the women were 12th as the team earned five medals. Purdue totaled 15 top-eight podium finishes and had 10 top-10 marks in school history at the two-day meet. Wills collected All-Big Ten Second Team accolades with his silver-medal finish. The men's top-seven finish was their fourth in a row after they placed outside the top nine each of the previous four years (2015-18) and in nine of the previous 13 (2006-18).
PURDUE IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Two Boilermakers appear in the top-25 in the week five national TFRI top-25 rankings, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Fifth-year Johnny Vanos is ranked No. 12 in the weight throw thanks to a mark of 22.10 meters that is the second-best throw in school history. Sophomore Praise Aniamaka checks in at No. 16 in the triple jump, as his mark of 16.05m is No. 4 all-time.
In the #EventSquad rankings, the men are No. 19 in the weight throw and the women are No. 21 nationally in the pole vault. The women also are No. 23 in the 200m and the men are No. 24 in the 60m.
LAST TIME OUT: REGULAR-SEASON FINALE
Purdue concluded the indoor regular season at the Alex Wilson Invitational on February 18 in South Bend, Indiana. Four personal-record marks were set, in addition to two season-bests. Sophomore Anne Busse picked up her first collegiate victory in the pole vault to lead the way for the Boilermakers.

Qualifying Boilermakers will compete at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships from March 10-11 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The NCAA field will be announced following all of the conference championship meets.
