WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue women's swimming & diving joins its comrades from around the conference in Ann Arbor this week for the annual seven-session showcase that is the Big Ten Championships.
Action is set for Wednesday evening through Saturday at Michigan's Canham Natatorium, which is also hosting the men's championship meet next week as the first dual host of both Big Tens since Iowa in 2012.
The Purdue women have not taken a full team to Ann Arbor since the Wolverines last hosted in 2016. The divers qualified for the NCAA Championships at the co-ed Zone C Championships in March last season and the Boilermakers had a small group compete at a long course meet – Club Wolverine's Eric Namesnik Memorial Open – at Canham Natatorium this past summer. Masy Folcik, Maggie Love and Kendra Bowen were among those in attendance; Folcik won the A final of the 100-meter breaststroke.
The Purdue women are set to host the full Big Ten Championships next season for the first time since 2017.

ANNUAL DIVING MEDALISTS
• The Boilermakers have produced a medalist in platform diving at the last five Big Ten Championships dating back to 2018. Last year Purdue racked up 109 points in the event while accounting for half of the eight-diver championship field. Maggie Merriman medaled in the event for the third year in a row and Maycey Vieta won silver for the second time. Merriman joined Carrie McCambridge (2004-06) and MacKenzie Tweardy (2013-15) as the only women's divers at Purdue to medal in any diving event three years in a row.
• Sophie McAfee and Jenna Sonnenberg both scored in all three diving events last season in their debuts at the Big Ten Championships. They went on to join Merriman and Vieta at the NCAA Championships. By accounting for 65 team points, McAfee was the Boilermakers' top scorer as a freshman. Along with being a championship finalist on the tower, she also swept the consolation finals on the springboards – making her the first Boilermaker to win a pair of B finals at the same Big Tens since 2006.
• Not surprisingly, Merriman and Vieta are the team's active career scoring leaders at Big Tens. Merriman is a likely five-year scorer as she gets set to close out her career at the conference championship meet. Butterfly specialist Lindsay Turner and Vieta have an opportunity to be four-year scorers for the Class of 2023.
3 FRESHMAN RECORDS HAVE FALLEN THIS SEASON
• Daryn Wright (springboard diving events) and Abby Marcukaitis (100 back) have teamed to eclipse three Purdue freshman records this season, marking the first time the Boilermakers have hit a trifecta in that category since 2020. They have joined Kendra Bowen (100 free in 2020) and Hannah Hill (50 free in 2020) as active student-athletes to hold freshman benchmarks.
