Boilermakers Receive Program-Record-Tying 6 Big Ten Postseason Honors

Sophomore outside hitter Eva Hudson earned unanimous First Team honors and was joined by junior middle blocker Raven Colvin and freshman outside hitter Chloe Chicoine. Meanwhile, graduate student libero Maddie Schermerhorn took home Second Team honors and Chicoine and freshman setter Taylor Anderson received All-Freshman Team. Chicoine was a unanimous vote.  

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Tying a program record set in 2021, the Purdue Boilermakers were awarded six honors in the Big Ten postseason awards, announced today by the conference office and Big Ten Network. The honorees include three All-Big Ten First Team selections, an All-Big Ten Second Team and two All-Freshman Team nods.
 
Sophomore outside hitter Eva Hudson earned unanimous First Team honors and was joined by junior middle blocker Raven Colvin and freshman outside hitter Chloe Chicoine. Meanwhile, graduate student libero Maddie Schermerhorn took home Second Team honors and Chicoine and setter Taylor Anderson received All-Freshman Team. Chicoine was a unanimous vote.
 
It is the first time since 2005 two players have earned All-Freshman Team honors.
 
Hudson, a six-rotation player, received her second straight First Team nod. The Boilermaker ranks 10th in the nation and third in the league in kills (505). Only getting better as the season has progressed, Hudson has risen to the occasion during Big Ten play, upping her production in virtually every category. Averaging 4.77 kills per set during Big Ten play, she checks in at fourth in the league in kills per set (4.39). The fastest Boilermaker to reach 1,000 career kills in Purdue rally-scoring era history has posted 10 double-doubles this season, set a career-high 30 kills in the takedown vs. #3 Wisconsin and ended the regular season with a career-high-tying .500 attack % (21-1-40) at Michigan State. Reaching double-digit kills in every match this season, Hudson enters the NCAA tournament averaging 5.08 kills per set, 2.34 digs per set and a .258 hitting % over the last 10 matches.
 
Chicoine, another six-rotation outside hitter, was selected as a First Team All-Big Ten and unanimous All-Freshman Team honoree. The Boilermaker ranked fifth overall in the conference in both kills (438) and points per set (488), which also led all freshmen. Chicoine produces in the biggest matches of the season, seen with her .359 attack % vs. #2 Nebraska (18-4-39), a Big Ten season-high 20 kills on a .405 clip at #11 Penn State and a career-high 23 digs vs. #3 Wisconsin. Meanwhile, her 27 kills vs. Penn State was the most by a Purdue freshman in recent history. Chicoine tallied 10 double-doubles in her first year and racked up 31 errorless sets. She was named Big Ten Player of the Week once and Freshman of the Week five times. It is the second straight year a Purdue freshman has earned First Team honors.
 
Colvin, who received Second Team honors a year ago, was voted to First Team after leading the league with 157 total blocks. Despite her junior status, she ranks fifth in the Purdue career top-10 list with 397 block assists and will enter the Purdue single-season record books for the second straight year, ranking sixth in block assists (141) heading into postseason. Colvin hit .400% or better on six occasions, including .519% at Minnesota, and registered 15 matches with at least six total blocks this season. The Boilermaker had her best offensive performance of Big Ten play when she went nearly errorless with 14 kills and one error on 22 swings (.591%) while also totaling a season-high 11 blocks vs. Indiana.
 
Schermerhorn, the Big Ten leader with 4.49 digs per set this season, was selected to the Second Team following a career-best 516 total digs this season. The Boilermaker posted 12 20-plus dig matches this season, including a season-high 27 digs vs. #16 Penn State to complete Purdue's series sweep over the Nittany Lions. One of the best back row players in Purdue history, Schermerhorn enters the program's single-season history for the second straight year, ranking eighth in total digs and fifth in digs per set (4.49). In under 24 hours, she posted 37 digs as Purdue took down a pair of top-25 opponents in Lawrence, Kansas, and followed it up with a 40-dig showing as Purdue beat #3 Wisconsin and Maryland within a 24 hour span. Schermerhorn will close out her collegiate career a two-time All-Big Ten Second Team honoree.
 
Anderson secured All-Freshman Team honors after starting every Big Ten match. One of the best freshman setters in program history, the San Antonio, Texas, product led all Big Ten setters in assists per set on five separate weeks, closed out the regular season with 995 total assists (9.75 per set), 91 total blocks and 194 digs. The most productive blocker among all Big Ten setters (.89 blocks per set) has produced 10 matches with 40 or more assists and five matches with at least 50 assists. Not only has she guided Purdue to a pair of its best offensive productions in the last five years, both of which came against Big Ten opponents (69 kills vs. #16 Penn State and vs. #3 Wisconsin and 66 kills at Ohio State). Anderson has seven double-doubles under her belt, including a career-high 57 assists (the most by a Boilermaker since 2019) and 12 digs.
 
Purdue begins its 25th NCAA tournament journey today in Holloway Gymnasium, with a First Round matchup vs. Fairfield at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
