The visitors found their first goal in the 18th minute and added a second in the 22nd. The half closed with a score in the 35th minute before one with 11 minutes remaining in the game.
 
The Boilermakers (3-8-1, 0-3-1 Big Ten) were out-shot 15-8, and the Hawkeyes (7-1-3, 1-1-2 Big Ten) had a 9-1 advantage in shots on target. Iowa earned six corners to Purdue's three, and UI was called for 16 fouls and the Boilermakers had seven.
 
Junior forward Gracie Dunaway and freshman forward Lauren Omholt each had three shots, with Dunaway posting a shot on target. Senior goalkeeper Charlotte Cyr made five saves.
 
Iowa, who has allowed just three goals during the 2023 season, is the seventh opponent that was or currently is ranked or receiving votes that Purdue has played through its first 12 games of the campaign. The Boilermakers entered Thursday night's matchup having allowed just two goals in their last three games to begin Big Ten play.
 
Tonight's loss snapped a two-game win streak against the Hawkeyes at Folk Field.
 
Dunaway opened the game with a chance in the fourth minute, but her shot from inside the 18 went wide. A pair of Iowa corner kicks followed, with the first resulting in a shot wide, before Dunaway had another opportunity in the 17th minute that was saved.
 
Iowa took a 1-0 lead at 17:47 on a goal by Kenzie Roling, with the assist to Josie Durr.
 
Omholt sent a shot wide of the goal in the 22nd minute in an attempt to tie the contest before the Hawkeyes extended their lead to 2-0 at 21:52. Maggie Johnston scored from Samantha Cary.
 
A chance wide by redshirt junior midfielder Callie Ingram came four minutes later before the Boilermaker defense blocked an Iowa shot in the 32nd minute. That set up a corner kick, but the visitors could not get a shot off.
 
The Hawkeyes made it 3-0 at 34:50, as Kellen Fife scored. She was assisted by Kelli McGroarty and Eva Pattison.
 
Cyr made a nice save in the 43rd minute, and a blocked shot and chance wide followed for UI to conclude the half.
 
Iowa had eight shots, four on goal, in the opening 45 minutes, while Purdue had four shots, one on target.
 
The first shot of the second half didn't come until the 60th minute, as Cyr made a nice save, and Omholt had an opportunity go wide left three minutes later. The Hawkeyes then missed a penalty kick at 63:16.
 
Dunaway had a shot blocked in the 71st minute, and Purdue had a good opportunity three minutes later. Sophomore forward Kayla Budish had a nice run down the right side and sent a ball in through the six, but the Boilermaker attackers could not get a shot off.
 
The 75th minute saw Omholt earn a great chance from just outside the penalty area, but her shot barely went wide of the left post.
 
Cyr made a pair of nice saves in the 77th minute.
 
UI scored its fourth goal at 79:34, as Rielee Fetty's goal came off a pass from Sofia Bush.
 
Redshirt junior midfielder Victoria Kevdzija had a shot that went wide in the 82nd minute, and Cyr made another nice save, her fifth of the day, in the 89th as she had to dive to her right.
 
Iowa had seven shots, five on goal, to Purdue's four shots in the second half.
 
Up next, Purdue is back on the road to conclude the week with a visit to Wisconsin on Sunday, October 1. Kickoff in Madison is at 2 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. CT. The Boilermakers then come back to Folk Field for a rivalry matchup against Indiana on Sunday, October 8, at 1 p.m. ET. Admission is free for all fans as Purdue will look to retain the Golden Boot Trophy for the ninth consecutive year. It is Kids Club Day and there will be a scarf giveaway for students.
