NORMAN, Okla. – Purdue Women's Golf shaved five strokes off its first-round score by carding a 1-under 279 on Sunday, and the Boilermakers still find themselves in the middle of the pack with 18 holes left to play in the Schooner Fall Classic.
The Boilermakers are tied with Oklahoma State at 3-over through 36 holes, just one shot back of Oklahoma and Kansas State for fifth (+2). Purdue trails Houston and Florida State (E) by three, while Wake Forest (-20) holds a 14-shot cushion over Virginia Tech (-6) at the top of the leaderboard.
Kan Bunnabodee fired a 1-under 69, her third round in the 60s this season, to lead Purdue on moving day at Belmar Golf Club. She parred 16 holes on Sunday, including every hole on the front side to begin her round. Bunnabodee broke her par streak with a bogey at the 10th before making a three at the par-5 12th for the Boilermakers' first eagle of the season. Six consecutive pars to end her round kept Bunnabodee under par for the day.
Jocelyn Bruch, Ashley Kozlowski and Momo Sugiyama added even-par 70s to contribute to the team's score. Bruch's round featured three birdies and three bogeys, as the senior remained 1-under par through 36 holes. Bruch is tied for 19th on the individual leaderboard to lead all Boilermakers.
Kozlowski's round was highlighted by a bogey-free front nine. She birdied the par-4 fourth before closing the side with another birdie at the par-5 ninth to make the turn at 2-under. A 36 (+2) on the back completed her round of 70.
Sugiyama improved by three strokes from her opening round with a 70 of her own. The Australian carded a 33 (-1) on the back nine that featured birdies at No. 12 and No. 14.
The Boilermakers have 18 holes to move up and emerge from the clogged middle of the leaderboard. The final round begins Monday morning (Sept. 25) at 9:30 a.m. ET. Purdue (+3) will be paired with Oklahoma State (+3) and Tulsa (+4).
