NORMAN, Okla. – Jocelyn Bruch recorded her team-leading third round in the 60s, tying her career low with a 69 (-1) to lead Purdue Women's Golf in the first round of the Schooner Fall Classic.
The Boilermakers (+4) find themselves in sixth place after the opening round, tied alongside host Oklahoma, Kansas State and North Texas with 36 holes remaining at Belmar Golf Club. Wake Forest fired a 10-under 270 to hold a four-shot clubhouse lead over second-place Houston (-4).
After not finding a birdie on the front nine, Bruch started the back side with a birdie on the par-4 10th. She bogeyed No. 13 before getting the shot back with another birdie on No. 15. The Carmel, Indiana, native ended her round with her third birdie of the day to break 70 and pace Purdue in the opening round. Bruch sits in a tie for 13th after the opening round.
Natasha Kiel matched her best round as a Boilermaker, starting the tournament with a 71 (+1). The junior made 17 pars, and her lone bogey came at the par-4 16th.
Kan Bunnabodee and Ashley Kozlowski both shot 72 (+2) to contribute to the team score. Bunnabodee matched Bruch with three birdies throughout the day, but five bogeys prevented the fifth-year senior from going low. After bogeying three of her first six holes, Kozlowski made 11 straight pars before making a birdie at the 18th for a 33 on the back nine.
The Boilermakers look to climb the leaderboard on moving day, teeing off Sunday morning to start the second round.
