WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Team Triple Crown winner and All-Big Ten performer Paul Toetz was recognized as the best in the Midwest at second base, earning an All-Region honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association.
Toetz was a first-team selection in the Midwest Region, which features programs in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan and Minnesota. Rawlings is the presenting sponsor of the ABCA All-Region Teams.
Toetz posted a 1.004 OPS while leading the Boilermakers in batting average (.335), slugging percentage (.579), hits (66), home runs (10) and RBI (53). He started every game for the second year in a row, becoming the team's first offensive Triple Crown winner since 2015.
As Purdue's first infielder to be both an All-Big Ten and All-Region honoree in the same year since 2012, Toetz gives the Boilermakers an All-Region performer for the third year in a row. Ben Nisle was recognized as an outfielder in 2021 after also producing a 1.000 OPS season. Toetz's friend and fellow Wisconsin native, Evan Albrecht, was honored at shortstop last season after leading the team with a .365 batting average.
Toetz batted .368 with runners in scoring position and recorded 23 of his 53 RBI with two outs. He was also much improved defensively, committing only five errors at second base (.975 fielding percentage).
As the only Boilermaker to play in all 103 of Purdue's games the last two years, Toetz became the first Boilermaker since 2017-19 to start 100 consecutive games. He led the team with 13 multi-RBI games and 20 multi-hit games this season, producing 22 and 37 total in his two seasons at Purdue. Toetz and Jake Jarvis both hit 10 home runs this year, becoming the first teammates to both post a double-figure total since 2008.
Toetz is on track to graduate in August with a degree in communication, earning his bachelor's in just two years at Purdue.
Matt Bischoff (2010) was the last Boilermaker to win a team Triple Crown and be named All-Region in the same season, accomplishing the feat as a pitcher. Ryne White (2007) was the last to do as a hitter/position player.
