WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – As one of the nation's leaders in multiple receiving categories, Purdue Football wide receiver Charlie Jones was named a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award. Given to college football's best receiver, regardless of position, Jones became one of 12 semifinalists with a chance to win the trophy.
Purdue fans can show their support and vote for Jones to win the Biletnikoff Award. Every fan may vote once daily on the Biletnikoff Award FanVote page. At the end of fan voting, the finalist with the most votes earns one official vote towards winning the award.
Making the move to Purdue, Jones has emerged as one of the best receivers in the country. The Iowa transfer ranks third nationally in receptions (93) and receiving touchdowns (11), while ranking sixth in receiving yards (1,056). He leads the Big Ten in all three categories.
Boilermakers have a history with the Biletnikoff Award. Taylor Stubblefield won the honor in 2004, while David Bell was a finalist just one season ago. The duo became consensus All-Americans, and Jones is on pace to put up better numbers than both Boilermakers.
Jones has recorded six 100-yard games this season, including four in B1G play, to become the sixth Boilermaker to accomplish the feat in a single year. In B1G action, Jones has hauled in a conference-best 8.0 receptions per game to go along with 84.5 receiving yards per league contest.
With a 32-yard touchdown in the win over No. 21 Illinois, Jones became the eighth Boilermaker in Purdue history to record 10 touchdowns and 1,000 receiving yards in a single season. Since 2000, only five Big Ten receivers have tallied 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns through the first 10 games of a season: Jones, Braylon Edwards (Michigan - 2004), Charles Rodgers (Michigan State - 2001, 2002), Austin Carr (Northwestern - 2016) and Marvin McNutt (Iowa - 2011). This season, Jones is one of four wide receivers nationwide with at least 1,000 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.
It's safe to say Jones enjoys the Purdue offense. After making 21 catches for 323 yards and three touchdowns during the entire 2021 season, it only took him three games to surpass last year's totals with the Hawkeyes. With three multi-touchdown games, Jones is just the sixth Purdue receiver since 2000 to have three-or-more multi-touchdown games in a season. The Deerfield, Illinois, native joined former Purdue wide receiver David Bell (2021) as the only Big Ten receivers since 2000 to haul in 85 or more passes through their first 10 games of a season.
The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation will announce three finalists for the Biletnikoff Award on November 29. The winner of the award will be announced Thursday, Dec. 8 on ESPN as part of The Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
Any player (wide receiver, tight end, slot back, running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the Biletnikoff Award. First presented in 1994, the Biletnikoff Award is named after College Football and Pro Football Hall of Famer Fred Biletnikoff. Before becoming the Raiders' all-time leading receiver, Biletnikoff was an All-American at Florida State.
Jones and the Boilermakers return to the road Saturday (Nov. 26), facing Indiana for the Old Oaken Bucket and chance to win the Big Ten West. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on Big Ten Network.
