WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Football cornerback Cory Trice has been named to the watch list for the Comeback Player of the Year Award, College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA), in association with The Associated Press (AP) and the Fiesta Bowl Organization, announced Wednesday morning (Oct. 12).
The award recognizes college football student-athletes from all divisions of college football for overcoming injury, illness, or other circumstances. At the conclusion of each season, in a vote by a panel of writers, editors, and sports information directors, three college football student-athletes will be honored as Comeback Player of the Year Award winners at the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl.
Returning for his redshirt-senior year, Trice has bounced back from a torn ACL that cut his 2021 season short. The Hopkinsville, Kentucky, native started the first two games last year before suffering the season-ending injury. This season, Trice has started all six games at cornerback and leads the Boilermakers with seven pass breakups. He has made 11 tackles in the secondary as well, including one tackle-for-loss. Averaging 1.3 passes defended per game, Trice ranks eighth in the Big Ten.
Trice played a major role in Purdue's B1G road wins over No. 21 Minnesota (Oct. 1) and Maryland (Oct. 8) over the past two weeks. According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), Trice played 38 coverage snaps against the Golden Gophers without allowing a reception. One week later, he hauled in an interception to help the Boilermakers beat the Terrapins.
Trice and the Boilermakers return to Ross-Ade Stadium Saturday night (Oct. 15), hosting Nebraska in front of a sellout crowd. The Big Ten West matchup kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET on BTN.
