WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue men's golf head coach Rob Bradley has announced the 2022 spring golf schedule that features several big events, culminating with the Big Ten Championships at the Pete Dye Course at French Lick.
The Boilermakers are coming off an outstanding fall season, currently ranked 22nd in the latest Golfstat rankings led by senior Joe Weiler (ranked 33rd) and sophomore Herman Sekne (ranked 42nd). Sekne won the final two events of the fall season (Rich Harvest Farms Intercollegiate, Purdue Fall Invitational), while Weiler posted top-20 finishes in all four events.
After a few training weekends in Florida, Purdue will open the spring season with the Big Ten Match Play Championships at the Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Florida, on Feb. 4 and 5. Purdue last won the event in 2018 and has had success at the event, posting a 16-7-6 record in Bradley's eight appearances.
The following week, Purdue heads to Puerto Rico for the elite Puerto Rico Classic held at the Grand Reserve Country Club, the site of the PGA Tour's Puerto Rico Open about three weeks later. The individual medalist of the Puerto Rico Classic will receive an invite to the PGA Tour event from March 3 to 6. The field includes a who's-who in college golf as standout programs Georgia (13th), Ole Miss (10th), Oklahoma (1st), Tennessee (12th), East Tennessee State (24th), Michigan State (31st) and South Carolina (53rd) will be among the teams competing.
After over a month off, Purdue then heads to South Carolina for the Hootie at Bulls Bay event, spearheaded by former Hootie and the Blowfish lead man Darius Rucker. Purdue played in the event filled with southern teams in 2017, 2019 and 2021.
In early April, Purdue heads to Naples, Florida, for the prestigious Calusa Cup at Calusa Pines Golf Club, hosted by the University of Iowa. The event typically has some of the best teams in college golf competing, providing another challenge for the Boilermakers.
The last regular-season spring event will be the Boilermaker Invitational, this year held at the Ackerman-Allen Golf Course on April 9 and 10. The event will be played at Ackerman-Allen, due to renovations being made at the Kampen Course.
The Big Ten Championships will be held April 29 to May 1, at the Pete Dye Course at the French Lick Resort. The six NCAA Regional sites are The Traditions Club (College Station, Texas), PGA National Resort – Champion Course (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.), The Course at Yale (New Haven, Conn.), The Reserve at Spanos Park (Stockton, Calif.), Ol' Colony Golf Complex (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) and the Ohio State Golf Club (Columbus, Ohio).
