West Lafayette, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team will hit the road again this season for the Cincinnati Pam Whitehead Invitational. Sophomore Carmen Gallardo Guevara will trek to Cary, N.C., for the 2022 ITA All-American Championship, as the Boilermakers' lone representative.

Gallardo will open one of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's main fall events Saturday in the pre-qualifying round, which lasts Saturday and Sunday. From there, the qualifying round runs Oct. 3-4 to set up the main draw Oct. 5-9. Gallardo is the first Boilermaker to receive a bid since 2019 when Csilla Fodor and Ena Babic competed in the event.

Purdue will face off against opponents from Xavier, Miami (Ohio) and the host school Cincinnati. Currently, there are three doubles sessions and six singles sessions scheduled to take place on Friday and Saturday.

The Boilers will take on Xavier and Miami (Ohio) in doubles on Friday before following up with Cincinnati in singles. On Saturday, Purdue will face the host school in doubles then continue on to play Xavier and Miami (Ohio) in singles.

Last weekend five Boilermakers made their season debuts in a round-robin event at the Hoosier Classic in Bloomington.

Purdue picked up six wins in the first event of the season. Freshman Emma-Jane Barclay earned  her first two singles wins of her collegiate career. Freshmen Antonia Pareja and Ashlie Wilson also made their collegiate debuts and each took home a win in doubles.

In doubles, Rut Galindo picked up a pair of wins after partnering with Wilson for a 6-3 victory on the first day of the event. On the second day, Galindo teamed up with Pareja to fight for a 6-4 win.
