WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Carmen Gallardo Guevara enters her second season at Purdue after posting a 22-13 singles record as a freshman in 2021-22. Purdue Athletics sat down with the sophomore to ask her five questions.
Q: What is your favorite thing about Purdue?
A: I just really like the environment here like Athletics how they lead sports in general and it made me feel like home since the first moment I was talking to coaches. When I was making the decision it just felt right to be here and also the excellence is academics and sports also made me choose Purdue.
Q: Who was your favorite tennis player growing up?
A: I would say Roger Federer. As the years go on I start to like Rafa Nadal more, but I would keep choosing Federer because I just love how he focuses on his technique and all that stuff. I can really identify with that because I'm that type of player.
Q: What is your favorite place you have ever played tennis?
A: I would say these courts. I just love to play indoor and we don't have many indoor courts back in Spain. I just love it here. I feel like my game is much more aggressive than if I were playing on clay courts and I love how the ball goes super fast in here. I just love this facility.
Q: If you were not playing tennis, what sport would you play?
A: I would say volleyball. I know may girls that are playing volleyball back in Spain and they always speak so well about the sport and how fun it is to play with your teammates. Tennis is a pretty individual sport so even though we play as a team here, I think I would l love to try actually playing as a team and share those experiences.
Q: How excited are you for this season?
A: I'm super, super excited. I can't wait to start playing this fall and the actual season in the spring. I'm super excited.
