2018 Grad Brian Carlson Advances on the Road to the U.S. Open

DARIEN, Conn. – Brian Carlson, a 2018 Purdue graduate, has advanced to the final qualifying round for the 122nd United States Open Championship after winning local qualifying on Monday at Wee Burn Country Club in Darien, Connecticut.

DARIEN, Conn. – Brian Carlson, a 2018 Purdue graduate, has advanced to the final qualifying round for the 122nd United States Open Championship after winning local qualifying on Monday at Wee Burn Country Club in Darien, Connecticut.
 
Carlson breezed to local qualifying medalist honors with a 4-under par 68 to earn one of the nine qualifying spots from the site. He won medalist honors by five shots over four players. With the win, he will now have a choice of 11 final qualifying sites with most of the final qualifiers taking place on June 6.
 
The 122nd U.S. Open will take place at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, from June 16 to 19. Carlson, among other Purdue alums, are looking to become the fourth former Boilermaker in recent memory to compete in the U.S. Open (Tyler Duncan 2015, 2018, 2020; Shiv Kapur 2014, 2015; Fernando Barco 2021).
 
Carlson was a standout at Purdue from 2015 to 2018, earning All-Big Ten honors in 2018 (1st) and 2016 (2nd), when he was also a PING All-Midwest Region honoree. He currently ranks sixth on the career stroke average chart (73.24) and had 14 top-10 finishes in his career, good for fifth on the Purdue list. During his senior season, he posted a 71.66 stroke average, good for fifth on the single-season chart.
 
Carlson is currently competing on the PGA Tour Canada, where he finished last year 18th on the points list with three top-10 finishes.
