WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue sophomore Herman Sekne has been named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week for the fourth time this season, the Big Ten office announced this morning.
The four weekly awards are now the most in school history and tied for the second most in Big Ten history with Illinois' Charlie Danielson (2016) and Illinois' Chris DeForest (2010). Indiana's Jeff Overton (2004) holds the Big Ten record with five Big Ten Golfer of the Week accolades in one season. No underclassman in Big Ten history has won more weekly accolades than Sekne.
The Oslo, Norway, native finished tied for seventh at the Hootie at Bulls Bay, firing a 6-under par 210 (70-71-69). It marked his fourth straight top-seven finish, culminating a four-tournament stretch in which he's placed first, first, sixth and seventh with a combined score of 42-under par 822 (68.50 stroke average).
Sekne has risen to No. 19 nationally in the latest Golfweek player rankings and is averaging 69.33 strokes per round for the season. Fifteen of his 18 rounds have been even or under-par and he has been even or under-par in 12 straight rounds, one off the school record set by Adam Schenk in 2014. He's already had eight rounds in the 60s, good for the fourth-most rounds in the 60s in school history with at least three events left to play.
Sekne and the Boilermakers will compete in the prestigious Calusa Cup starting Sunday at Calusa Pines Golf Club in Naples, Florida.
