WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue and Ohio State were unable to start their Sunday doubleheader at Alexander Field after RealFeel temperatures did not reach the necessary 28-degree threshold as dictated by Big Ten Conference rules, leading to a cancellation to close the weekend.
Game management event staff is instructed to utilize current RealFeel temps via AccuWeather and not go off the forecasted number for the upcoming hours. Current RealFeel temps did not reach 28 degrees Sunday and the forecasted numbers also dropped while the event staff monitored the situation from noon to 2:30 p.m. Players are allotted 30 to 45 minutes to warm up once the RealFeel temp reaches 28 degrees and allows a game to begin.
Traditionally, Big Ten games that are postponed/canceled are not made up once the visiting team begins its return trip home. The Boilermakers have had four games canceled this month due to inclement weather.
Fans with tickets for either of the two games vs. OSU canceled this weekend can exchange the tickets for general admission seats to any future home game (excluding the April 8-10 weekend). That policy remains in place for all postponed/canceled games at Alexander Field this season.
Purdue returns to action Tuesday when it hosts UIC at 4 p.m. ET. The Boilermakers and Flames have not played since 2014.
