AUGUSTA, Ga. – To say it was windy in Augusta, Georgia on Saturday would be an understatement. The high winds were torturous, causing so much havoc at Forest Hills Golf Club that the Valspar Augusta Invitational's first day consisted of only 18 holes instead of 36. At the halfway point, Purdue Women's Golf sits in the middle of a stacked field.
The tournament's start was delayed one hour due to rain. When the wind picked up, the decision was made to shorten the event to 36 holes with 18 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday. With a field of 90 players, featuring 14 ladies in Golfstat's Top 100, only Furman's Anna Morgan broke par with a 1-under 71. No. 4 South Carolina shot 13-over as a team to sit atop the leaderboard, while the Boilermakers were 12 shots back in ninth place (+25).
Redshirt-freshman Jocelyn Bruch fired a 75 (+3) to pace Purdue. Before the wind became unbearable, Bruch found herself at the top of the leaderboard at 3-under through 6 holes. She made four birdies throughout her round, ranking second in the field. The Carmel, Indiana, native is tied for ninth on the individual leaderboard.
Danielle du Toit and Thitapa Pakdeesettakul broke 80 on a difficult day, firing rounds of 79 (+7) to stay near the upper third of the field in a tie for 36th. Du Toit recorded three birdies over her 18 holes to rank second on the team.
Due to the weather, Sunday's final round will not begin until 10:30 a.m. ET with a shotgun start. Purdue will be paired with Furman (+21) and #23 Virginia Tech (+24).
