WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue wrestling team heads into the postseason this weekend, traveling to Lincoln, Nebraska for the 2022 Big Ten Championships, hosted by Nebraska at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The first of four sessions will begin Saturday, March 5, at 11 a.m. ET, with full event coverage on the Big Ten Network and B1G+.
B1G CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES
• Purdue is set to compete at the Big Ten Championships for the 102nd time in program history.
• The Boilermakers have six conference titles in program history, winning them all from 1942-to-1954.
• Purdue has had 40 individual Big Ten Champions, last climbing the top of the podium in 2004, when Ryan Lange won the conference title at 174 pounds.
• The Boilermakers have had 333 Big Ten placewinners all-time, including a program-record eight in each of the last two years and 40 under head coach Tony Ersland.
• Purdue has had three Big Ten finalists over the last two years as Devin Schroder has advanced to back-to-back finals at 125 pounds and Kendall Coleman reached the championship match at 157 pounds in 2020.
• Purdue has placed in the top-six in each of the last two seasons, marking the first back-to-back, top-six showings since consecutive top-five efforts in 1991 and 1992.
• Of Purdue's 16 placewinners over the last two seasons, 12 have wrestled at or above their seed in the final standings.
PURDUE LINEUP & RANKINGS
Purdue finished at No. 16 in the final NWCA Coaches Poll, marking their third straight top-20 regular season finish (15 in 2020, 18 in 2021); a first for the Boilermakers since 1991-93. It is also the seventh time in eight seasons under Ersland that the Boilermakers have finished the season ranked in the top-25. Seven Boilermakers earned individual rankings from the NCAA Coaches Panel, including Schroder at No.8 at 125 and Coleman at No. 11 at 157, while eight Purdue wrestlers secured a top-33 Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) ranking.
