WEST LAFAYETTE - Purdue Football opened its 2022 edition of spring practices Monday inside the Mollenkopf Athletic Center, looking to build even more momentum off of an exiting 9-4 season and TransPerfect Music City Bowl Championship in Nashville in December.
"I thought our guys came ready to go, working hard to come out here and improve their ability, their knowledge of the system and showcase that they can come out and play," head coach Jeff Brohm said.
This past Monday, Brohm and his staff worked to instill program terminology for newcomers within the fast-paced environment of Boilermaker-style football. Brohm stressed how the new roster additions bring a sense of eagerness to the program.
"We want our coaches to take and run with it," Brohm said. "Right now, Ron (English) and Mark (Hagen) have been here this past year. They understand what we are looking to try and get done. They understand the general approach of attacking more, guarding things tighter, challenging things, trying to get after the quarterback and being aggressive in our approach."
Brohm said he is confident in the direction the squad will take this spring, but is focusing on each student-athlete fully grasping the culture of the program and university.
Sixth-year senior and record-breaking quarterback, Aidan O'Connell, returns for the upcoming season. Brohm said O'Connell is a great teammate, and he wants to get the rest of the position group behind him ready.
"He has put in a lot of work, he's put in a lot of extra work," Brohm said. "I see him out here all the time on his own. He's just a great teammate to all, and I think he's going to work hard to come out and try to improve upon last year."
The Boilermakers will be back on the practice field Wednesday, March 2, at 4 p.m., with fans and the general public encouraged to attend. There are two more remaining practices that are free and open to the public. Taking photos or recording video during the practices is strictly prohibited. The spring schedule is below.
