HOUSTON – Purdue Women's Golf ended the first day of the ICON Invitational in seventh place, ahead of two Top 25 teams as part of a competitive field playing The Golf Club of Houston. The Boilermakers found themselves at 5-over, which included a 1-under 287 in the opening round, ahead of ranked opponents No. 23 Ole Miss (+10) and No. 20 TCU (+14).
Making her spring debut, junior Kan Bunnabodee paced Purdue by playing the first 36 holes even par. The Chonburi, Thailand, native carded a 2-under 70 in round one, recording four birdies along the way. She began her afternoon round with two birdies through her first seven holes before settling for a 74 (+2). Bunabodee sits in a tie for 17th with 18 holes to play.
Ashley Kozlowski had Purdue's round of the day, firing a 3-under 69 in the opening round. The sophomore started out hot with three birdies in six holes to make the turn to the front side. Back-to-back birdies pushed Kozlowski to 5-under and only one shot off the lead. The two birdies were followed by consecutive bogeys, but pars over the final four holes resulted in the low round for the Boilermaker. She is tied for 23rd at 1-over through two rounds of play.
Jocelyn Bruch and Inez Wanamarta cracked the top 30 after 36 holes, ending the day at 2-over par. Bruch improved after an opening-round 75 (+3) by posting red figures in the afternoon. With the help of three birdies, the redshirt-freshman carded a 1-under 71 for Purdue's lowest second round. Wanamarta stayed consistent with a pair of 73s (+1), tied for 28th alongside her teammate Bruch.
Purdue has one more chance to move up the leaderboard. The Boilermakers tee off at 9 a.m. ET for the final round, paired alongside Tennessee (+6) and Maryland (+9).
