NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Eleven personal-best marks were set as the Purdue track & field team concluded the indoor regular season on Saturday at the Alex Wilson Invitational in Notre Dame, Indiana, at the Loftus Sports Center.
A week before the Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships, 11 Boilermakers competed on Saturday. The 11 personal-bests, along with one season-best time, came as Purdue had 14 total entries.
Sophomore Henry H.L. Lewis had Purdue's best finish of the day and had three PRs. He finished fourth in the 60-meter final with a personal-best time of 6.98. That came just over an hour after he ran the prelims in 7.01, the fifth-fastest mark and a PR before he bested it by 0.03 seconds in the final. Lewis also notched a collegiate-record time in the 200m, where he finished seventh overall in 22.16.
Sophomore Naomi Campbell also reached the 60m final and finished fifth with a PR of 7.65. That followed a 7.77 in the prelims as she was sixth to secure the final spot in the final. Campbell also competed in the 200m and was fifth in 25.49.
Freshman Chris Huisman had a personal-best mark in the shot put to finish sixth. His PR of 15.64m came on his first attempt. He also competed in the weight throw and was eighth with a throw of 13.08m.
Two more freshmen throwers added personal-records on Saturday. Morgan Murff's came in the weight throw with a mark of 15.11m on her fourth throw to finish fifth. Ikeava Bryant's PR was in the shot put, as she was seventh thanks to a mark of 12.88m on her second attempt.
Freshman Ryan Farmer added a collegiate-best 400m time of 49.96 to finish 15th. Junior Ellie Tate ran a season-best 2:12.19 in the 800m to place 16th.
Four Boilermakers raced in the men's 800m, and all three who had run the event before bested their PRs. Sophomore Caleb Williams had the best finish in 1:54.31, as he placed 20th in his debut in the event. Freshman Mason Wolfe was 23rd in 1:54.56, junior Joseph Romanyk was 28th in 1:54.96 and sophomore Luke Upton was 31st in 1:56.14 as all three notched personal-record times.
Next weekend, postseason competition begins as the Boilermakers travel to the Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships. The meet in Geneva, Ohio, is set for February 25-26, at The Spire Institute, as individual and team conference titles will be on the line.
