WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue sophomore Herman Sekne has been named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week for the third time this season after an impressive performance at the Puerto Rico Classic.

Sekne won back-to-back honors in the fall after winning medalist honors at the Rich Harvest Farms Intercollegiate and the Purdue Fall Invitational. Sekne becomes the first Purdue golfer to win three Big Ten Golfer of the Week honors in the same season since William Sjaichudin in 2011, and just the third Boilermaker to ever do it (Pariya Junhasavasdikul in 2007).

The Oslo, Norway, native finished tied for sixth with a 54-hole total of 14-under par 202 (64-71-67). The 202 total was the third-best score in Purdue school history, while his opening-round 64 was also third on the single-round list.

Sekne has now posted nine straight rounds of even-par or better, the second-longest streak in school history, with six of the rounds coming in the 60s. Additionally, he has posted three straight top-10 finishes and he currently owns a 69.20 stroke average and a cumulative score of 36-under par. Over his last three tournaments, Sekne is a combined 36-under par with a stroke average of 68.00.

Twelve of Sekne's 15 rounds have been even- or under-par and he has seven rounds this season in the 60s, already tied for fifth on the Purdue single-season list. He lowered his career average to 72.06 strokes per round in 36 career rounds.

As of the most recent Golfstat rankings (Feb. 15), Sekne is ranked 32nd nationally and 24th in the most-recent Golfweek rankings (Feb. 14).

The No. 20-ranked Boilermakers will be off until late March when it competes in the Hootie at Bulls Bay in Awendaw, S.C.
