WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue women's swimming & diving trains all year for the championship portion of the season, which begins this week with the spotlight on Wisconsin's second-year aquatic center as the league's newest pool hosts the Big Ten Championships.
It's back to four-day, seven-session format this season, with swimming events and diving events contested in the same facility. Purdue hosted the special co-ed Big Ten Diving Championships last year at the same time the women were racing in Minneapolis.
Wisconsin's Soderholm Family Aquatic Center is the first new pool in the Big Ten since Iowa's Campus Recreation and Wellness Center opened in the summer of 2010. Purdue had the opportunity to compete at UW's aquatic center in January 2021 for a triple dual with the Badgers and Gophers. It was the first official NCAA meet held at the facility, which is also to join the meet rotation for the Big Ten Championships soon as well. Prior to last season, Purdue's last time to Madison was in February 2013 for the Big Ten Triple Duals.
Four of the first five women's Big Ten Championships were held in Milwaukee, but the meet has not returned to the state of Wisconsin since 1986.
The Purdue men are set to host the full Big Ten Championships next week for the first time since 2016. The Purdue women are in line to host the 2024 Big Ten Championships. Michigan is hosting both the men's and women's conference championships next year.
