WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue alums Dakota Mathias and Carsen Edwards wrapped up play in the NBA Summer League yesterday, helping their squads to strong performances over the two-week span in Las Vegas.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue alums Dakota Mathias and Carsen Edwards wrapped up play in the NBA Summer League yesterday, helping their squads to strong performances over the two-week span in Las Vegas.
 
Mathias, a 2018 grad, helped the Utah Jazz to a 3-2 record during its five-game stint. Mathias averaged 9.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 0.8 steals per game while shooting 15-of-42 (.357) from the field, 9-of-28 (.321) from long distance and 8-of-8 (1.000) from the free throw line. He saved his best for last, scoring 22 points with five rebounds in yesterday's loss to the 76ers, the team Mathias spent time with last season.
 
Edwards, meanwhile, was a key factor in helping the Celtics reach the Summer League Championship game while posting a 4-1 record. Edwards averaged 13.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game. He had 17 points with eight rebounds and six assists in the Summer League opener against the Atlanta Hawks. He followed that performance up with a 14-point, eight-rebound, five-assist showing against Denver.
 
The NBA season will officially start Oct. 19.
