WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue swimming & diving has agreed to host the women of Indiana State and men of Wabash College for a 4 p.m. ET home meet on Friday, Jan. 7, a co-ed dual that will also serve as the Senior Day meet for the Purdue men.
The Boilermakers had a gap in their schedules early in the spring semester. Prior to the addition, the swimmers were not scheduled to compete from the end of the Purdue Invitational on Nov. 20 until the annual rivalry dual with Indiana on Jan. 22 in Bloomington.
The Purdue women are still planning on holding their Senior Day ceremony on Saturday, Jan. 29 prior to their home finale vs. Illinois. The men are competing vs. Minnesota and Northwestern that weekend in Minneapolis.
The Purdue men were originally scheduled to host Michigan on Jan. 14 or 15. But the Wolverines opted to travel co-ed and join the Boilermakers' Nov. 5 home meet with Missouri. That meet evolved into a triple dual as Purdue's marquee single-day meet of the fall semester. But it also left an opening in mid-January, on a date in which the men had planned to hold their Senior Day ceremony.
In recent years, Michigan State had served as Purdue's regular opponent in early January. But Michigan State University opted to discontinue its sponsorship of swimming & diving at the end of the 2020-21 school year.
Indiana State and Wabash were both in attendance at the Oct. 16 Indiana Intercollegiates meet at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center. They've both been regulars at the meet over the years and the ISU divers have also competed at the last two Purdue Invitationals. The Sycamores began sponsoring a women's swimming & diving program in time for the 2016-17 school year.
The men's Senior Day ceremony on Jan. 7 will be held prior to the start of the 4 p.m. meet.
Purdue last hosted Wabash for a head-to-head meet during the 1929-30 season.
