WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The No. 2-ranked Purdue Boilermakers wraps up a three-game homestand with another big challenge -- this time as undefeated and high-scoring Iowa makes a visit to Mackey Arena. Friday's contest will be the Big Ten opener for both squads as both teams look to remain undefeated on the season and start league play on a high note.
The Boilermakers are 7-0 for the first time since the 2015-16 season, while Iowa is also 7-0 for the first time since the 2013-14 season.
The contest will be televised on BTN with Brandon Gaudin, Stephen Bardo and Andy Katz on the call. On the radio waves, Rob Blackman and Bobby Riddell will be courtside on the 22-station Purdue Radio Network and online on the Varsity Sports Network (app). Live stats will be provided on PurdueStats.com and updates will be provided on Purdue's official Twitter account (@BoilerBall).
THE NOTES TO KNOW
1) Purdue is 7-0 for just the third time under head coach Matt Painter. A win over Iowa would give Purdue just its fifth 8-0 start since 1940, joining the 1992-93, 1993-94, 2009-10 and 2015-16 seasons.
2) Purdue is ranked No. 2 this week, matching the highest AP ranking in school history and first time ranked in top two since March 7, 1988.
3) Friday's game features the top-two scoring offenses in America (Iowa - 1st; Purdue - 2nd). Both teams also rank in the top five nationally in offensive efficiency (Purdue - 1st; Iowa - 4th) and are second (Purdue) and third (Iowa) in scoring margin.
4) The teams are just two of 14 remaining unbeatens and Friday's game is one of just nine more possible contests between unbeaten teams during college basketball's regular-season schedule.
5) Purdue's 1.37 points per possession against Florida State were the most the Seminoles have allowed in the Leonard Hamilton era (20 years).
6) Friday's contest marks the 30th straight sellout at Mackey Arena (non-CoVid season). Just one game (Incarnate Word) has tickets remaining.
7) Purdue is one-of-three teams nationally to shoot at least 50.0 percent from the field, 40.0 percent from 3-point range and 75.0 percent from the free throw line (Santa Clara, Colorado State).
8) Purdue has been whistled for just 14 fouls during the last two games, including two in the first half. Opponents have shot eight free throws.
9) Matt Painter (362) needs two wins to tie Branch McCracken and Bo Ryan for seventh on the Big Ten's all-time wins list (364), and nine to tie Ward "Piggy" Lambert for fifth. Since 1980, just two Purdue coaches have won 874 games (Gene Keady - 512; Matt Painter - 362).
