WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame has announced that Purdue sophomore center is one of 20 players to be named to the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award watch list, given annually to the nation's top center.
Williams is one of four Big Ten players named to the list (Illinois' Kofi Cockburn, Maryland's Qudus Wahab, Michigan's Hunter Dickinson).

Edey, a 7-foot, 4-inch sophomore center from Toronto, was one of the nation's biggest surprises as a freshman in 2020-21. He was named to the Big Ten's All-Freshman Team, after averaging 8.7 points and 4.4 rebounds while shooting 59.7 percent from the field, the second-best percentage by a freshman in school history. He also shot 71.4 percent from the free throw line.
He then was one of the most-dominant players in the field, leading Canada to a 6-1 record and a bronze medal with the lone loss coming to Team USA in the semfinals 92-86, while averaging 15.1 points, 14.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game while shooting 42-of-75 (.560) from the field. He pulled down a remarkable 7.0 offensive rebounds per game and played just 23.7 minutes per game. Per 40 minutes, he averaged 26.3 points and 23.9 rebounds.
In the U19 World Cup, Edey ranked ninth in scoring, first in rebounding (by 25 rebounds), second in field goal percentage, fourth in blocks, second in efficiency and first in double-doubles (6). He recorded five games of 15 or more rebounds. The rest of the tournament field had five.
The Boilermakers will open their season with an exhibition game Nov. 4, against Indianapolis. The regular-season opener comes five days later against Bellarmine in Mackey Arena.
