WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame has announced that Purdue sophomore guard Jaden Ivey is one of 20 players to be named to the Jerry Award watch list, given annually to the nation's top shooting guard.

Ivey is one of three Big Ten players named to the list (Maryland's Eric Ayala, Michigan's Eli Brooks). Ivey could become the second Boilermaker to win the award, as Carsen Edwards was named the recipient in 2018. No school has ever had two players win the award.

Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies will open up on Friday, October 22 so your fans can vote for their favorite players in each of the three rounds. Please help promote the fan voting to your fan base through your social media channels. The top 10 player selections from the fan vote will get an additional vote towards making the next round.

This list will be narrowed down to 10 in mid-February and then 5 finalists will be selected in March that will be presented to Jerry West and the selection committee. The winner of this award will be presented on a to be determined date. Presentation details will be announced at a later date.

Ivey, a 6-foot, 4-inch sophomore guard from South Bend, Indiana, had an outstanding freshman campaign, being named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team after averaging 11.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. However, over the last six contests a year ago, Ivey averaged 18.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 37-of-79 (.468) from the field in that span. He scored 26 points against North Texas, the second-most ever by a Big Ten freshman in an NCAA Tournament debut.

Ivey then excelled this past summer on the international scene, being named to the FIBA U19 World Cup All-Star 5 Team after leading Team USA to the Gold Medal and averaging 12.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.7 blocks in just 16.5 minutes per game. Ivey played a major role in the Gold Medal game against France, sparking an American comeback in the second half.

Ivey has been named to almost every preseason All-Big Ten and All-American list.

The Boilermakers will open their season with an exhibition game Nov. 4, against Indianapolis. The regular-season opener comes five days later against Bellarmine in Mackey Arena.
