WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue women's basketball head coach Sharon Versyp announced Mide Oriyomi has transferred to play for the Boilermakers. Oriyomi will arrive in West Lafayette as a junior after two seasons at Northeastern.
"We're excited to bring Mide into our family," Versyp said. "She is a versatile guard who can play multiple positions inside and out. She has an elite rebounding ability to rebound out of her area on offense and defense. Her length and wingspan allow her to guard a variety of positions. She runs the floor very well and is a very effective scorer in transition, as well as a great stroke shooting the ball from the perimeter. We are excited to get her on campus to continue her growth and make an impact on our program."
Oriyomi spent two seasons at Northeastern, playing 45 games with 22 starts. She averaged 8.1 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 40.1% from the field and playing 22 minutes per game. .
As a sophomore, the Hamilton, Ontario, native had a major uptick in stats, falling a couple of rebounds shy of averaging a double-double on the year with 11.6 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. She was one of six players from the Colonial Athletic Association to average at least 10 points and seven rebounds last year.
Her sophomore jump was aided by 11 games in double figures, including a career-high 22 points against WNIT semifinalist Delaware in January. Oriyomi's improvements earned her a Third Team All-CAA nod this season.
Oriyomi was a three-year versity player at Kings Christian Collegiate, serving as the team captain in 2018-19. She was tabbed All-Star Second Team Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association and All-Academic during her time with the Cavaliers.
