WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Athletics is excited to announce a $3.75 million matching gift pool available for donors beginning on Purdue Day of Giving on April 28. The 1:1 match will be available for all gifts of $2,500+ (over a maximum of five years) supporting the More Than A Game Campaign, providing an excellent opportunity for fans to have their family or business names honored outside of historic Mackey Arena forever.
"The More Than A Game campaign has inspired a vast and diverse group of Boilermakers to step up, from former student-athletes to professors to businesses who are not only donating, but signing on as 1869 Society members who will develop and perhaps one day hire Purdue student-athletes," says Tim House, senior associate athletics director and assistant vice president for development. "The Purdue family has raised over $13 million of the campaign's ambitious $18 million goal, and this matching gift will go a long way towards helping us finish the job for our student-athletes."
Including some who chose to remain anonymous, the lead donors for this matching gift are:
"As an alum and former student-athlete, I know firsthand the impact that sport and education can have on a person's life." says Purdue football alum Kevin Sumlin. "I'm proud of Purdue for leading the way to preserve sports and jobs during this difficult time. It was an easy decision to support that effort, and I hope other Boilers will join me."
"The values of grit, teamwork, and perseverance I learned while playing at Purdue are a huge part of the reason I am in the position to give back," added Bob Martin, Purdue football alum and CEO of THOR Industries in Elkhart, Ind. "I am so pleased with Purdue for fighting to give our student-athletes the opportunities that I was blessed with, even while other schools had to make the difficult decision to cut sports. Amy and I are proud to give our support to this extremely important effort and hope Boilers everywhere will join us!"
As a bonus, all cash gifts to More Than A Game will receive 3 priority points per $100, and all gifts made to the John Purdue Club scholarship fund prior to the April 30 renewal deadline will receive 2 priority points per $100.
Purdue Athletics can also earn bonus funds from participating in hourly online giving challenges and topping the leaderboards; this year's hourly challenge schedule can be found here for donors wishing to maximize the impact of their gift. Donors will be thanked with phone calls from Boilermaker student-athletes.
