WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue women's basketball head coach Sharon Versyp announced the newest addition for the 2021-22 roster in transfer Jeanae Terry. The two-year Illinois standout is the third transfer to join the Boilermakers this offseason.
"We got another big piece for next season with Jeanae," Versyp said. "She is an all-around player with the ability score, pass, rebound and guard any position on the floor. She plays with a physical presence that enables her to drive, and her court vision lets her find open teammates. We're excited to bring in a player with elite level experience who knows what it takes to play in the Big Ten."Terry will make her way to West Lafayette after 53 games and 34 starts at Illinois. She averaged 8.2 points, 3.6 assists, 5.5 rebounds per game with a 34.1% clip from the field. Her numbers ticked up during Big Ten play with 8.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists over 36 league contests.
The Detroit, Mich., native's production took a serious jump for her sophomore campaign with 10.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists at nearly 40% shooting, starting all 23 games. Terry posted six double-doubles and three games with 20 or more points. She set a career high with 28 points against Wisconsin this season and was just the 24th player since the 1999-00 season to total 21 points, 16 rebounds and eight assists in a game, coming against Penn State on Jan. 28.
Terry ranked eighth in the Big Ten in assists, 11th in rebounds and ninth in total steals. She was one of five players in the nation this season to average 10 points, 7.5 rebounds and four assists per game.
She played in 30 games with 11 starts as a rookie in 2019-20, averaging 6.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and three assists per game. Her 1.82 assist-to-turnover ratio was seventh among all freshmen nationally with at least 90 helpers.
Terry emerged on the collegiate level after a standout career at Wayne Memorial in the suburbs of Detroit. She was a two-time Class A All-State selection and guided the Zebras to a Class A Final Four appearance. Terry was tabbed the No. 18 guard in the Class of 2019 by ESPN Hoopgurlz.
Terry will join Mide Oriyomi and Abbey Ellis as experienced new additions for next summer.
