WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – After going 3-1 in non-conference action, the Purdue women's basketball team sets its sights on a new challenge, the Big Ten Conference season. The Boilermakers will open the 40th season of league play Thursday night against No. 16/18 Northwestern at Mackey Arena. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on the Big Ten Network with Lisa Byington and Christy Winters-Scott on the call.

The Boilermakers enter league action winners of their last two. Junior transfer Brooke Moore went for 20 and 25 points against Buffalo and Bowling Green, respectively, narrowly missing out on a double-double with nine assists in the latter outing. Madison Layden also had a career day with 13 points, four assists and four steals. Kayana Traylor notched her fourth straight game in double figures, ending with 12 on the night. Tamara Farquhar finished one rebound shy of her second double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds.

Purdue has won the Big Ten Regular Season Championship seven times in its history, all compacted between 1991 and 2002. Since their last regular-season title, the Boilermakers have won a quartet of Big Ten Tournament Championships under head coach Sharon Versyp.

NOTES
• Purdue leads the all-time series with Northwestern 50-23. The last time the Wildcats visited Mackey Arena, Karissa McLaughlin hit a game-winning 3-pointer with one second left in 2019.
• The Boilermakers are 10-4 in Big Ten openers in the Versyp era, winning their last two.
Tamara Farquhar remains one of two players from the Big Ten to average a double-double this season.
Kayana Traylor is one of 30 players in the nation averaging at least 15 points, four assists and four rebounds per game, and one of eight from the Big Ten.
• The Boilermakers will go for its first ranked win against a ranked opponent since Jan. 20, 2019, against No. 25 Indiana.
Brooke Moore is one of six players in the nation this season to tally a 20-point, 9-assist game and one of three from the Big Ten, including Veronica Burton.
• Purdue has made 20 of its last 39 attempts from behind the arc over the last two games.
• Madison Layden is second on the team with five 3-pointers and is one of two Big Ten rookies with 10 assists, joining Iowa's Caitlin Clark.
• Thursday will be a quasi-sibling rivalry game. Quarterback Austin Burton, brother of Northwestern's Veronica, transferred to Purdue over the summer.
