Purdue Athletics and the John Purdue Club have set an $18 million goal for the More Than A Game campaign, launched in August. The goal of the campaign is to help the athletics department navigate the financial ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic and position all Boilermakers for future success. The funds raised through this campaign will mitigate the losses from ticket sales, media rights agreements, and other areas.

"While we all look forward to watching the games, the reality is that football being back will not solve all of the challenges we are facing due to the pandemic," said Mike Bobinski, vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics, in a video. "Your support of this campaign is vital to us mitigating these challenges and continuing to provide the opportunities we've committed to on behalf of our student-athletes."

This decision comes after the reinstatement of the football season, a more thorough analysis of the basketball seasons, and the first of two Purdue Days of Giving this year; while Purdue Day of Giving 2020 got postponed to September, the 2021 event will take place on its traditional timeline on April 28, 2021. Throughout the spring and summer, Purdue Athletics has aggressively controlled expenditures, including instituting furloughs, reducing salaries, and eliminating positions, all in an effort to avoid some of the more drastic actions taken by other schools in the conference.

Iowa has announced it is eliminating men's gymnastics, men's tennis, and men's and women's swimming & diving at the end of the academic year. Minnesota plans to cut men's gymnastics, men's tennis, and men's indoor and outdoor track & field at the end of the 2020-21 season.

"True to Purdue form, we worked hard to establish an attainable goal. In the meantime, we tightened our belts as much as we could without further diminishing the student-athlete experience," said Tim House, senior associate athletics director and assistant vice president for development.

Fans, alumni, and friends interested in supporting the campaign have the following options available: Opportunities are also being explored to allow Purdue-connected businesses to support the campaign and be recognized appropriately, with details forthcoming.

Said House, "We wish we didn't have to run this campaign, but we're proud of how our fan base has stepped up in our greatest time of need. We are thankful for everyone's support as we maintain these efforts through at least June 2021 and prepare ourselves for the future."

The John Purdue Club thanks you for your continuous support of our student-athletes and this campaign. It means more now than ever.
