ROSEMONT, Ill. – Another springboard sweep for Emily Bretscher has earned the Purdue junior her third Big Ten Diver of the Week honor of the season, making her just the sixth Boilermaker to accomplish the award trifecta.
Bretscher was victorious on 1-meter and 3-meter Friday vs. Michigan State as the Purdue divers competed at home for the first time since Oct. 25. She's 7-for-9 in event victories at NCAA meets this season. The Knoxville native was the runner-up in both events she did not win.
Bretscher is the first female diver in the Big Ten to win the league's award three times during the 2019-20 campaign.
Bretscher joins fellow Purdue All-Americans Carrie McCambridge, Amanda Miller, Ashley Karnes, Casey Matthews and Mary Beth Dunnichay among the elite group to claim the conference's weekly honor three times in a season. McCambridge was the first female diver induced into the Purdue Athletics Hall of Fame. Matthews joins McCambridge in that club next month.
Bretscher was also recognized Oct. 30 after a springboard sweep vs. Notre Dame and Nov. 27 after winning on 1-meter at IUPUI's House of Champions Invitational. She posted list scores of 276.30 (1-meter) and 314.75 (3-meter) in her victories vs. Michigan State.
The junior has won five career Big Ten Diver of the Week awards.
