WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue's all-time leading shot blocker is heading to Europe. Ae'Rianna Harris signed a professional contract to join Herner TC of the German Damen-Basketball-Budesliga.
The two-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year set more than 25 Purdue records, including career blocks for both men's and women's programs, defensive rebounds and double-doubles. Harris tallied 1,533 points, 1,079 rebounds and 380 blocks over four years in West Lafayette.
"I'm thankful to have an opportunity to play this game again," Harris said. "After four great years at Purdue, I'm looking forward to starting my professional career in Europe. I want to thank Coach Versyp, the staff, all my teammates and, most importantly, my family for all their support. I'm ready to get this thing started."
Harris was a three-time All-Big Ten selection, a 2019 Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Finalist and AP Honorable Mention All-America. Her shot blocking prowess on the defensive end saw her turn away at least three shots in 73 career games, including a career-high nine against No. 5 South Carolina last season. The Indianapolis native is just the second player in Big Ten history to join the 1,500-point, 1,000-rebound and 300-block club.
"I'm proud of Ae'Rianna and excited to see her sign her first professional contract," Versyp said. "She has developed into an all-around impact player at Purdue, and I know that she won't have an issue transitioning to the professional game. Her dedication and work ethic will continue to aid her growth as she starts a new chapter. We can't wait to see what she will accomplish in the next steps of her career.
Herner TC won the 2018-19 DBBL Championship and the regular season title. The club was 13-8 and tied for third place when the COVID-19 pandemic brought play to a halt.
