WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue women's basketball freshman Madison Layden was named the John Wooden All-Star Citizenship Award recipient Monday. The Northwestern High School graduate was one of two honorees, along with Lawrence Central's Dre Davis on the boys side.
The Wooden Citizenship Award normally is awarded at the Indiana-Kentucky All-Star series, but the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the 2020 edition.
Layden added another award to already impressive resume. The Kokomo native was tabbed as a McDonald's All-America nominee, the 2020 Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year, the runner up for Indiana Miss Basketball, a 2020 WBCA All-America honorable mention and an Indiana All-Star.
A two-time state champion, Layden was the first player in IHSAA history to lead three different Final Fours in scoring and ranks 13th in state history in points for a career.
Layden and fellow freshman Ra Shaya Kyle, along with newcomers Brooke Moore and Rokia Doubmia, have started on-campus workouts with the returners to prepare for the upcoming season.
