WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The NCAA announced Tuesday that for the ninth straight year all 18 Purdue teams are above the 930 Academic Progress Rate (APR) cutoff.
The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams.
Thirteen squads maintained or improved their multi-year rate from a year ago: men's basketball (975 vs. 955), men's cross country (958 vs. 952), men's golf (1000 vs. 1000), men's swimming and diving (994 vs. 990), wrestling (977 vs. 976), softball (969 vs. 966), women's cross country (1000 vs. 988), women's golf (1000 vs. 1000), women's soccer (997 vs. 995), women's swimming and diving (1000 vs. 1000), women's tennis (992 vs. 992), women's track and field (964 vs. 957) and volleyball (1000 vs. 1000).
Eleven Purdue teams had perfect 1,000 scores for the current year: men's basketball, men's cross country, men's golf, men's swimming and diving, women's basketball, women's cross country, women's golf, women's soccer, women's swimming and diving, women's tennis and women's volleyball.
Last week, volleyball received its 15th consecutive (every year of the program) public recognition award for posting a multi-year APR score in the top 10 percent of its sport. Women's golf was recognized for the same achievement for the third time, while men's golf and women's swimming and diving were honored for the second straight year. Women's cross country earns the distinction for the first time.
The APR measures the eligibility, retention and graduation of student-athletes. The most-recent APR scores are multi-year rates - or a rolling four-year average - based on the scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.
Purdue student-athletes regularly perform equal to or better than the student body.
