WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The postseason begins Saturday for the Purdue wrestling team as they head to Piscataway, New Jersey for the 2020 Big Ten Championships, set to be hosted by Rutgers at the RAC on Saturday and Sunday. The Boilermakers have six individuals seeded in the top-eight at their respective weight classes, including four in the top-four and their highest-seeded wrestler since 2013.
PURDUE LINEUP & RANKINGS
The Boilermakers finished the regular season ranked between ninth and 13th in the various tournament polls, earning their high marks from InterMat (9) and FloWrestling (10). Purdue's top-four seeded individuals at the Big Ten Championships are all ranked inside the top-eight in the country, with eight wrestlers earning marks in the final NCAA Coaches Poll and RPI rankings.
LAST TIME OUT
The Boilermakers have been off the last two weekends after finishing the regular season with an 18-14 dual victory at Illinois. The win included upset wins for sophomore Parker Filius and junior Max Lyon, and a dual-sealing victory for freshman Thomas Penola as Purdue finished 12-5 in dual competition on the season and 5-4 in conference action.
PURDUE NOTES
• Junior Devin Schroder earned the No. 2 pre-seed for the Big Ten Championships and is the highest-seeded Boilermaker at the conference tournament since Ivan Lopouchanski earned the No. 2 mark at 149 pounds in 2013.
• Schroder ranks fifth in NCAA Division I in technical falls, posting seven in a combined 25:25 this season.
• Senior Dylan Lydy was named the No. 3 pre-seed at 174 pounds, as three of the top-four ranked individuals in the nation hail from the Big Ten.
• Lydy is 28-1 this season, good for the No. 3 single-season win percentage in school history and the best start for a Boilermaker since Chris Fleeger opened 32-0 in 2003.
• With 108 career wins, Lydy ranks 12th all-time in Purdue history, sitting one shy of Logan Brown and two short of Frank Laccone.
• Freshman Kendall Coleman secured the No. 3 pre-seed at 157 pounds, the top seed at the conference championships for a Purdue freshman since Fleeger was the No. 2 seed at 125 pounds in 2002.
• Coleman leads Purdue with 89 takedowns this season, the most by a Boilermaker since 2012.
• Senior Christian Brunner was named the No. 4 pre-seed at 197 pounds, despite missing the final four duals of the season.
• At 22-5 on the season, Brunner is five wins short of the century mark for his Purdue career, and his 216 career back points are ninth-best in the Boilermaker record book.
