IOWA CITY, Iowa – With three freshmen contributing, Purdue women's swimming & diving registered a pair of top-10 relay times in program history while finishing on the podium in both events on the opening night of the Big Ten Championships.
The Boilermakers' 200 medley relay team posted the fourth-fastest time (1:38.81) in program history while placing sixth. Seniors Natalie Mudd and Jinq En Phee teamed up with freshmen Mallory Jump and Claire Abbasse. Their time only ranks behind the program records Purdue has posted in the event at Big Tens the last three seasons. Phee was part of Purdue's 200 medley relay team at Big Tens for the third consecutive year.
Maizie Seidl and Gretta DeCoursey also contributed to Purdue's 800 free relay for the third straight season. They teamed with Kendra Bowen (freshman) and Natalie Myers to register the eighth-fastest time (7:08.67) in team history, finishing eighth in the event. DeCoursey (1:46.85) and Myers (1:46.59) both broke 1:47 on the final two 200 legs of the race. Myers' mark was the fourth fastest among the anchor-leg swimmers in the race.
Since only leadoff legs on relays are eligible for individual season and all-time bests, Siedl's split of 1:47.32 stands as the Purdue season best in the 200 free for now.
The Big Ten Championships continue Thursday with prelims at noon ET and finals at 7:30 p.m. ET. On the schedule for Thursday is the 50 free, 200 IM, 500 free, 1-meter diving and the 400 medley relay.
