MADISON, Wis. - Wisconsin made all 12 of its free throw attempts in the final four minutes and withstood a Purdue rally to defeat the Boilermakers 69-65 at the Kohl Center on Tuesday night.
The loss drops Purdue to 14-13 overall and 7-9 in the Big Ten Conference, while Wisconsin improves to 16-10 overall and 9-6 in league play.
Purdue trailed 51-38 with just over 10 minutes to play, when the Boilermakers started to chip away behind Nojel Eastern. Eastern had five points in a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 51-45 with 7:30 to play. Wisconsin still led 59-53 when an Eastern 3-point play and a Sasha Stefanovic triple cut the lead to 61-59.
The Boilermakers then got a stop on the next possession, but a pair of Stefanovic 3-point tries were off the mark and Wisconsin iced the game from the free throw line in the final minute of play to hand Purdue its third straight setback.
Purdue was led by Trevion Williams' seventh double-double of the season in a 17-point, 12-rebound effort. Eastern had 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Stefanovic finished with 11 points. Purdue shot 39.7 percent from the field and outrebounded the Badgers 37-30, but Wisconsin made 12 of 31 3-point attempts and 19 of 20 from the free throw line.
Purdue hosts Michigan at 2 p.m., ET, on Saturday in Mackey Arena.
