WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Eight members of Purdue women's swimming are ready to register a host of season-best times in their races at the three-day, nine-team Ohio State Winter Invitational.
The annual meet has been expanded to three days this season to mirror the event schedule for next week's Big Ten Championships. Prelims are daily at 11 a.m. ET, with finals set for 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 4 p.m. Sunday.
The Boilermakers will be represented in Columbus by Caylee Casbon, Anna Giesler, Katie Hughes, Maddi Johnson, Angela Pan, Ella Pheifer, Erin Verbrugge and Rachel Young.
Team scoring is traditionally not stressed at the Ohio State Winter Invite. Over 100 student-athletes have raced at the annual mid-February meet in recent seasons. Ohio State's aquatic center features a 10-lane competition pool.
The Boilermakers earned eight second swims in A finals at the 2019 Ohio State Winter Invite. Paige Miller swept the 500 and 1,650 freestyle, earning a spot on Purdue's roster for the Big Ten Championships. Both of her winning times ranked among the top three on the team prior to Big Tens. Katie Hughes also had top-five team marks in the distance events in Columbus last year.
Anna Gielser was an A finalist in both the 100 and 200 free at the 2019 Ohio State Winter Invite. Caylee Casbon (200 back) and Kesley Macaddino (200 fly) won B finals.
In 2018, Maizie Seidl enjoyed a breakout performance at the Ohio State Winter Invite. She posted NCAA provisional qualifying times (B Cuts) in the 100 and 200 free, winning the 200 en route to earning Big Ten Swimmer of the Week honors and a roster spot for Big Tens. She went on to help the 800 free relay team qualify for the NCAA Championships and remains one of Purdue's top performers in the mid-distance freestyle events.
