WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The No. 14 Purdue wrestling team hosts its final home dual of the season Friday, welcoming fourth-ranked Nebraska to Mackey Arena for a 7 p.m. ET start. The Boilermakers are 11-4 overall and 4-3 in conference duals, coming off consecutive losses to Minnesota and Wisconsin last weekend, while the Huskers are 7-3 on the season (2-3 B1G) having won their last two, including a dramatic 20-14 victory over No. 6 Ohio State.
PROMOTIONAL EVENTS
Prior to the start of Friday's match, head coach Tony Ersland and the Boilermakers will honor their senior grapplers and their achievements with the program. The trio of Christian Brunner, Nate Limmex and Dylan Lydy have combined for 268 career victories, seven NCAA Tournament appearances, six Big Ten Championship placewinning performances and several spots on Purdue's career statistics record lists.
"There's not enough time or words for this group," said Ersland. "They were some of the first recruits that chose to join me here at Purdue, and we're forever blessed by their loyalty and commitment to our program."
PURDUE LINEUP & RANKINGS
The Boilermakers rank between seventh and 15th in the nation in the tournament rankings, earning a high mark from FloWrestling with four top-eight ranked individuals, while sitting between 14 and 19 in dual rankings, holding the top marks from the NWCA Coaches Poll and The Open Mat.
LAST TIME OUT
The Boilermakers dropped a pair of duals last weekend, falling to No. 13 Minnesota 27-12, and suffering a 27-14 loss at the hands of ninth-ranked Wisconsin. Lydy, junior Devin Schroder and freshman Kendall Coleman all went 3-0, each scoring a bonus-point win on the weekend, while sophomore Jared Florell picked up a win against Wisconsin, his first dual victory of the season.
PURDUE NOTES
• Ersland was named the Midseason Coach of the Year by FloWrestling, and was tabbed as one of the top midseason coaching performances by InterMat.
• Purdue wrestlers have been to overtime 27 times in 2019-20, winning 20 matches, including a 6-0 mark from Lydy and 4-1 records from Coleman and Penola.
• The Boilermakers are 25-17 overall in ranked matchups, and 84-9 when a ranked Purdue wrestler faces an unranked opponent.
• Lydy currently owns the third-best single-season record in program history at 26-1, and is off to the best start at Purdue since Chris Fleeger went 32-1 in 2003.
• Eight of Lydy's 26 wins have come over ranked opponents this season, including six against the current top-10.
• The fourth-ranked Boilermaker senior is 12th in program history with 106 wins, sitting three shy of Logan Brown's career total, and is 15th all-time at Purdue with 260 takedowns, three short of Scott Hinkel, and six away from Danny Sabatello.
• Schroder leads the Boilermakers with 14 bonus-point victories on the season, including a team-best eight technical falls, and six bonus-point wins over ranked opponents.
• Schroder's seven tech falls over NCAA Division I opponents in 25:25 ranks third the nation, trailing only Alex Madrigal (10) and Spencer Lee (8).
• With 380 career back points, Schroder is 11 shy of matching Hinkel for second all-time Purdue, and his 146 back points this season rank sixth in the program's single-season history. Schroder remains four shy of Frank Patacsil's 1984 total and 14 short of Alex Griffin's mark from 2017.
• Coleman's 12 takedowns vs. Wisconsin gave him 89 for the season, a team-high and the most by a Purdue freshman since Cashé Quiroga in 2010 (124).
• With 26 wins on the season, Coleman has the eighth-most by a Purdue freshman all-time. A win Friday would make him tied with Justin Fraga's total of 27 from 2007.
• The Boilermakers will be without 165-pound freshman Emil Soehnlen for the rest of the year after suffering a leg injury in December which required season-ending surgery.
